Detox Tools

There are many detox tools offered in the marketplace to detoxify the body, some more effective than others  Here, we feature seven important tools used for cleansing and detoxification by health care practitioners:

    Far Infrared Sauna
    Rebounder
    Ozone Generator
    Mechanical Juicer
    Electric Juicer
    Colon Cleansing Kit
Kidney, Liver, and Gallbladder Detoxification Kit

Tool #1: Far Infrared Sauna

The Far Infrared Sauna is one of the tools under the Heat Therapy category and as such is a heat treatment detox method. Your body needs to be detoxified of the dangerous chemicals you absorb every day. Sweating is one of the best ways to rid your body of poisons, and that is where saunas can help.

Far infrared saunas stimulate sweat glands with dry heat from ceramic coils, keeping the air inside cooler and easier to tolerate versus steam saunas. Far infrared saunas also penetrate the skin deeper than conventional saunas, prompting chemicals from fat cells to move to the skin’s surface.

They produce heat using a ceramic heater, which does not turn red hot but instead produces invisible, infrared heat. Traditional saunas and sweat lodges use hot stones, which also produce the same type of soft, radiant heat. This is the same type of heat as produced by the sun and our bodies. Infrared heat is very safe and not at all like the heat produced by microwaves.

In a far infrared sauna, only 20 percent of the energy is used to heat the air, leaving the rest of the energy to heat the body. The radiant heat can penetrate the skin to a depth of one to two inches, producing a gentle warming inside the body. The temperature inside an infra-red sauna is adjustable and averages a comfortable 100 °F to 150 °F (38 °C to 65 °C).

This allows a person to sweat faster and to tolerate a longer period of time inside the sauna, allowing for the therapeutic effects to occur. Typical sessions last 30 to 45 minutes and can be repeated once or twice during the day to maximize the benefits.

Health Benefits: Heat therapy using the far infrared sauna can result in an impressive number of positive health benefits:

  • Assists weight loss and increases metabolism
  • Improves circulation to deep and superficial tissues
  • Detoxification of heavy metals and organic chemicals stored in fat cells
  • Helps to boost the immune response to kill viruses and bacteria
  • Promotes skin tone, elasticity, pore cleansing, and healing of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis
  • Reduces physical and emotional stress
  • Reduces fatigue and stimulates energy
  • Anti-cancer benefit through the hyperthermia effect, immune system enhancement, and elimination of carcinogenic chemicals

Cellular Detoxification: The effect of detoxification is one of the most interesting and wide-ranging benefits of the infrared sauna. The ability of hyperthermia therapy to release a range of toxins stored in body tissues has been documented in a number of medical studies over the last 20 years.

Heat causes chemicals such as heavy metals, pesticides, and other fat-soluble toxins to be released from the fat cells and tissues into the lymph fluid. Since sweat is made from the lymph fluid, toxins in the lymph are expelled from the body in the sweat. This process bypasses the liver and kidneys, which are usually already overburdened in toxic and chronically ill individuals.

One study found that the sweat formed in conventional saunas is 95 to 97 percent water. In far infra-red saunas, only 80–85 percent of the sweat is composed of water; the remaining 15 to 20 percent consists of cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, toxic heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia, and uric acid.

Study after study has shown that infra-red sauna therapy, combined with nutritional supplements, consistently and dramatically eliminates a wide range of chemical compounds including pesticides, PCBs, heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic, and both prescription and non-prescription drugs. Sweat produced during exercise does not eliminate the same amount of toxins.

Note: This is one of the optional detox tools. Hot water baths, when done correctly, can be just as effective. However, the far infrared sauna is much more convenient to use, and is highly recommended, if you can afford one for the home.

Tool #2: Rebounder

The rebounder is one of the detox tools that spans three of the four pillars of health, and is unique in this regards. Rebounding is used as an:

  1. exercise for detoxification and elimination purposes
  2. exercise for stress reduction reasons
  3. exercise for aerobic enhancement, oxygen delivery, and cellular respiration

Regular rebounding affords 30 benefits. We will mention only a few pertinent benefits that are related to the detoxification, elimination, and immune processes.

Method of Detoxification: As a method of detoxification, rebound exercise is an excellent internal cleanser. The up-and-down motion compresses and decompresses the body tissues and fluids. Toxins are squeezed out of cells and tissues as lymph fluid is pushed throughout the body.

The lymphatic system is the metabolic garbage can of the body. It rids you of toxins such as dead and cancerous cells, nitrogenous wastes, fat, infectious viruses, heavy metals, and other assorted junk cast off by the cells. The movement performed in rebounding provides the stimulus for a free-flowing system that drains away these potential poisons.

Unlike the arterial system, the lymphatic system does not have its own pump. It has no heart muscle to move the fluid around through its lymph vessels. There are just three ways to activate the flow of lymph away from the tissues it serves and back into the main pulmonary circulation. Lymphatic flow requires:

muscular contraction from exercise and movement,
    gravitational pressure, and
internal massage to the valves of lymph ducts.

Rebounding supplies all three methods of removing waste products from the cells and from the body. Rebound exercise is the best lymph-pumping exercise known. As a result of this pumping action, toxins are washed out of tissues throughout the entire body and flushed out. Rebound exercise is such an effective detoxifier that it can initiate a healing crisis in a matter of days.

Aids lymphatic circulation, as well as the flow in the veins of the circulatory system, so it effectively flushes the lymphatic system. Its alternating weightlessness and double gravity produce a pumping action that pulls out waste products from the cells and forces oxygen and nutrients into them from the bloodstream.

Stimulator of Waste Elimination:  Rebound exercise also stimulates the peristaltic muscular contractions of the colon, accelerating the elimination of body waste. It helps to relieve constipation thus preventing re-absorption of toxins from a slow-moving bowel. Some people complain when they first start jumping that it causes then to have diarrhea. It isn’t actually diarrhea. Their bowels, which have probably been sluggish for years, are finally beginning to function normally again.

Enhances Digestion and Elimination Processes: The gentle bounce of rebounding is effective in returning natural, regular bowel movements to chronically constipated persons. The steady bounce sets up a pulsating rhythm transmitted by the nervous system to the brain area responsible for regulating the intestinal system, which re-establishes one’s rhythmical bowel activity. Digestion is improved as well.

Builds Cellular Strength: Rebounding works against constant gravitational pressure, so you resist the Earth’s pull. Your resistance is subtle, but it builds cellular strength.

Immune System Benefits: The rebounding motion stimulates all internal organs, moves the cerebral-spinal fluid, aqueous fluid within the eyes, many people claim improved eyesight, and does wonders for the intestines. Many immune cells such as T-lymphocytes and macrophages are self-propelled by amoebic action. These cells contain molecules identical to those in muscle tissue.

All cells in the body become stronger in response to the increased G-force during rebounding, and this cellular exercise results in the self-propelled immune cells being up to five times more active. The job description of these cells includes eating viruses, bacteria, and even cancer cells, so it is good that they be active. This exercise directly strengthens the immune system.

Tool #3: Ozone Generator

The ozone generator is one of the  detox tools that can be set up in a corner of a dedicated room in the house. From the detoxification standpoint, it works to detoxify the lungs through normal breathing of clean, oxygen-rich air, as well as by doing aerobic exercise in the same clean, oxygen-rich environment.

From the standpoint of deep breathing, it affords clean, oxygen-rich air for those who want to deep breathe, but can't because they do not have access to fresh air from the outside due to the winter months, lack of a sliding glass door, and/or city air problems.

Note: This is one of the detox tools that is optional.

Tool #4: Mechanical Juicer

This has already been covered elsewhere on the site under Kitchen Equipment. However, the mechanical juicer is one of the detox tools needed for fasting for cleansing purposes. It is used to make fresh, fruit juices for the following fasts:

  •     One-day per week juice-water-herb fast
  •     Three-day juice-water-herb fast each season
  •     Five-day fast in the spring and fall, so twice per year

Tool #5: Electric Juicer

Again, this has already been covered elsewhere on the site under Kitchen Equipment. However, the electric juicer is one of the detox tools needed for fasting for cleansing purposes. It is used to make fresh, vegetable juices and combination green juices for the following fasts:

  •     One-day per week juice-water-herb fast
  •     Three-day juice-water-herb fast each season
  •     Five-day fast in the spring and fall, so twice per year
